Australian Alpine Epic at Mt Buller

A wilderness day, not a village lap. Check the live report.

The Australian Alpine Epic is the line the 2018 /mt-buller-epic product was named for. Mt Buller publishes it as 46 km, advanced, the Southern Hemisphere’s first IMBA Epic, running from the mountain toward Mirimbah through remote alpine terrain, singletrack and descents.

That is a wilderness problem, not a chairlift problem.

What the resort wants you to know

  • The live trail report can list the Epic closed with only “fair” conditions even when village trails look tidy
  • There is a dedicated Epic map on the resort maps page
  • The Mirimbah Shuttle (published departures on operating days; 2026 copy listed 9 am, 11.20 am, 2:40 pm and 5 pm) is how many riders return to the village after riding down. It is a separate ticket
  • First aid on gravity days does not follow you onto the Epic. Emergencies: 000 and the nearest marker
  • Alpine weather can include freezing temperatures and snow in the summer months
  • Avoid Extreme / Code Red fire days

How we treat the old product

We will not sell the Epic as a casual add-on to a first Buller weekend. If a group wants it inside a weekender, it replaces a village day, it does not sit after dinner. Fitness, navigation and a before-you-leave plan are the minimum.
