Mount Beauty is the valley hinge in the old North East week: downhill from Bright, uphill toward Falls Creek. Victoria’s High Country lists Big Hill MTB Park as open year-round, a pioneering Victorian network with Yellow, Blue, Red, Orange and Green loops. The listing is honest about navigation: finding your way around is part of the fun, and locals at cafes still give better beta than a static paragraph.
We will not invent a kilometre count the official listing does not print. We will not rank Big Hill against Mystic. We will say what the 2019 itinerary already knew: this town is where a five-day trip catches its breath and changes parks.
Stay in the valley if Falls Creek beds are scarce. Ride Big Hill if the group is intermediate and curious. Continue to Falls Creek only when that park’s report is green.

Valley logistics
Mount Beauty is where a five-day plan either breathes or unravels. If Falls Creek is closed, Big Hill plus a town night still saves the week. If Falls Creek is open and the group is gravity-hungry, Big Hill becomes the active recovery park — colour loops, not a second 535-metre descent.
Because the official listing does not hand us a tidy kilometre figure, we will not invent one. Ride the signed colour loops. Ask a local shop which loop is riding clean. That is better information than a paragraph written in another season.
