Beechworth MTB Park is the granite day the Wild Week put first for a reason. Victoria’s High Country lists it open year-round, with granite rock rolls, pinch climbs, tight switchbacks, descents, hand-shaped gaps and tabletops. Facilities on that listing: a skills zone, a jumps line, a green loop, two cross-country loops and a gravity loop. The same page says the surface “impossibly almost gets even better with rain.”
That last sentence is why Beechworth is a better arrival day than Falls Creek when the alps are still closed.
Town and tour shape
Beechworth is a historic gold town with food and lodging that do not depend on a chairlift calendar. The 2019 itinerary used it as a North East corner, not a sideshow. We keep that logic on North East Wild Week and the High Country itinerary.
Ride the signed loops. Use the skills zone if the granite is new to you. Do not treat a jumps line as a warm-up.

Why granite changes the week
Riders who only know pine-plantation flow sometimes arrive at Beechworth and assume the park is “small.” The High Country listing is describing a different skill: rock rolls, pinches, switchbacks that do not apologise. The skills zone exists because that surface is new to a lot of Melbourne trail-centre regulars.
Rain is not automatically a cancellation here. The official tourism line is that the surface can improve. That is the opposite of a clay Otways day. Still check for closures, fallen trees and event days.
Placing Beechworth in a tour
Arrival day from Melbourne: yes. Day after a Mystic hammering: yes, if you stay on the green and XC loops. Day before Falls Creek: only if the alpine park is actually open and you still have legs.
Gold-town streets are for walking in cleats you have already changed out of. The park is the ride.
